studio minky is a Toronto-based independent practice founded by me, Minky Kim.

With a strong background in ceramics, my practice explores identity, femininity, care, labour, and time through objects and material processes. I am drawn to handcraft as both a way of making and a way of thinking, using materials and repetitive processes to reflect on everyday experiences and relationships between people and objects. I move between functional and non-functional forms, blurring the boundaries between art and functionality and challenging conventional notions of what objects should be and how they should be used.

Alongside ceramics, I work with textiles, wood, and metal, often combining different mediums. I am interested in the physical qualities that materials carry, as well as the traces left by the hand. Combined with thoughtful design, these qualities can evoke emotional responses and open dialogues.

studio minky brings together these different forms of making, from larger installations and sculptures to smaller objects and experiments, creating a space where handcraft can take different forms and be shared publicly.
